Roundtable Leadership and Staff
At the Roundtable's Annual Meeting last week, four new Board Members were elected to terms starting in October: Cheryl Clarke (Freddie Mac Foundation); Catherine Meloy (Goodwill of Greater Washington); Chris Miller (Piedmont Environmental Council); and Peter Shapiro (University of Maryland Academy of Leadership). Alan Abramson (Aspen Institute) and Kathy McKinless (Archdiocese of Washington; retired KPMG) were reelected. Two Board Members completed their terms: Hope Gleicher (Trellis Fund) and Michael Rogers (MedStar Health). We thank them very much for their leadership and service.
The Roundtable has hired former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terry Gainer as Director of Emergency Preparedness. (See articles in the Washington Post and the Associated Press.)
The Roundtable has also hired Rosetta Thurman as Director of Development and Finance. Rosetta is completing her Masters Degree in Nonprofit Management at Trinity University and previously worked at Fair Chance.
Roundtable Events
The Roundtable's DC Mayoral Forum, co-sponsored with the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, was reviewed in The Examiner. Three winners of DC Appleseed Center's competition, "Solving DC Problems," presented their ideas to the Mayoral Candidates. Results of votes can be found online.
Save the Date: On July 19, at 9:30am at the Public Welfare Foundation, the Roundtable will co-convene a "Town Hall Forum" with the Center for Nonprofit Advancement. This Town Hall is a lead-up to the Nonprofit Congress to be held here in October 2006. More details next week. Free. Register here.

Rose Ann Cleveland was named the Cafritz Foundation's Executive Director, according to a press release and the Washington Post.
Jean-Michel Giraud is the Community Council For The Homeless' new Executive Director. (See more information here.)

Catholic Community Services and DC Central Kitchen are among the lead partners with Community Voice Mail that offers free voice mail service to homeless individuals trying to secure jobs, according to the Washington Post.
The Coalition for the Homeless and others organized a "Walk-Around" at the City Council Building June 15 to tell the Mayor, City Administrators and City Council Members to keep Franklin School shelter open until there are beds downtown for all 275 men.
Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and Latin American Youth Center participated in a youth-led Mayoral Forum hosted by the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates and the Young Women's Project which was featured by the Washington Post. Separately, the Community Foundation's Creative Communities Fund was highlighted in DC North (second page).
Community Family Life Services' nonprofit restaurant, 3rd & Eats, was featured in the Washingtonian.
DC Employment Justice Center helped negotiate a pay-back for RFK workers, according to the Common Denominator.
DC Fiscal Policy Institute prepared 'What's in the Final FY 2007 DC Budget?' a summary of the adopted FY 2007 budget. A somewhat longer analysis of the FY 2007 budget will be issued by DCFPI this summer.
DC Scores' grant from the World Bank was announced by Bank President Paul Wolfowitz at the Anacostia Business Summit, according to this press release.
Fair Budget Coalition is celebrating the victories of the Budget Request Act of 2007 which included more than $60 million in new Housing, Homeless Prevention and other safety net initiatives that were included in our "Sharing the Opportunity in Time of Prosperity" Fiscal Year 2007 Budget Report. The Foundation Center 50th Anniversary celebrations includes a June 28 event with Washington Grantmakers to introduce the newest edition of the Guide to Greater Washington, DC Grantmakers on CD-ROM. Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena hosts Celebration of Champions, Present and Future:
A Special Skating Exhibition and Silent Auction in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Kids On Ice, June 25. The event will include Olympic figure skating champions. Ticket information is available here.
Greater DC Cares and America Online hosted a successful Servathon. AOL provided "over 1,000 volunteers giving 5,000 hours of work," according to The Connection.
Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund's Charity Basketball Tournament and Community Festival is on June 17. Local celebrities including NBA and WNBA stars are scheduled to visit. "The 11th Annual Hoop Dreams 3-on-3 Charity Basketball Tournament and Community Festival will return to Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd-6th Street, NW."

Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington's Clark Lobenstine, was among community leaders welcoming 225 Sikhs from all over the U.S. who had gathered at Capitol Hill, according to Sikh Sangat News.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation unveiled their 'Young Scholars' program it has kept secret for years to reduce pressures on the youth involved. The first class of Young Scholars is now graduating with many going to college, according to a press release.

Channing Wickham of Washington AIDS Partnership. The Washington AIDS Partnership is a philanthropic collaborative affiliated with the National AIDS Fund and Washington Grantmakers. The Partnership makes grants guided by expert staff and a highly informed group of grantmakers, community leaders and authorities on HIV/AIDS. Many of these grants have proven to be highly effective in sparking tremendous growth in available services.
